Cosmic alert: A monstrous sunspot magnifies 10 times and points to Earth
A small spot that formed on the Sun a few days ago has grown, multiplied by 10 and has become a gigantic one: the active zone of AR3085.
The size of the spot is such that the Earth would easily drown in it. Its “snout” is now pointed at our planet.
And this threatens with a direct hit of streams of charged particles, clots of solar plasma, strong electromagnetic radiation, if intense eruptions or coronal ejections begin.
There is a probability, although of the order of 10 percent, of both, according to US experts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
They predict that a mild G-1 class geomagnetic storm is almost certain to occur on August 29, the result of a small outburst that already occurred on August 25.
Weather-dependent people will feel it. Possible radio interference will occur.
The Earth is threatened by a spot with a “skewed” magnetic field.
Specialists are concerned about another large hotspot, called AR3088. which is abnormal and crooked, so to speak. Normally, in spots, the negative pole of the magnetic field is located on the left, the positive pole – on the right. On the AR3088, they are rotated 90 degrees and located vertically. From such a “wrong” point, all kinds of unpleasant surprises can be expected.
Experts predict solar flares and, consequently, magnetic storms.
